Anthropology - The Khmer Loeu village

kroeung12

A Khmer Loeu Village generally consists of 200 to 700 people and is situated in a clearing in the middle of the forest. The Jaraïs have very long houses on piles with a north-south orientation. But the other tribes build their villages in a circle : 20 or 30 huts face a common house in the centre of the village. Formerly all the villages were protected by bamboo hedges and the entrances by long corridors while the surroundings were ‘booby trapped’ with sometimes poisoned bamboo lancets . A watering place where they go twice a day to bring the water supply or to bathe is always to be found near the village .
