With a dirt bike in good repair, an experienced motorcyclist can reach Banlung in 7 to 9 hours
The road from PNH to Kompong Cham and Steung Treng has been recently resurfaced. 20 kms before Steung Treng, at a place called O Pong Moan, you must turn right onto the good laterite trail that will take you to Banlung.

From Phnom Penh to Banlung by bus
Hour Lien and Rith Mony bus companies organize daily trips to from Phnom Penh to Ratanakiri at a cost of 10 $ per seat. Departures 6.15AM in front of Preah Put pagoda, north west of the Olympic Stadium. Arrival : 7PM. A recent addition, Soriya company organizes trip on the same schedule but from the south-west corner of the Central Market, which makes it much easier to find. Besides, Terres Rouges can also organize a pick up by one of the private minibuses that do the trip daily. It's usually quicker (around 9 hours), but you travel "cambodian way" with huge loads of merchandise and passengers that are easily sick...

From Siem Reap to Banlung
It's an 11 hours drive, it costs 250$ for the car.

From Laos to Banlung
There are two border crossing points with Laos relatively close to one another: the riverine crossing at Voeune Kham and the road crossing at Dom Kralor. Expect small extra fees for “stamps” on both sides of the border.
Cambodian visas are available at the border (Don't forget to bring a photo!). Open 08:00-17:00. Visas are only available at the road crossing, not at the river crossing. Laos visas are NOT available at the border. No special permits required from either Cambodia or Laos.
To get to the border crossing from Stung Treng, either take a ferry ($10/person, $60 for a private boat, 1 - 3 hours) or the minibus to the road crossing.
Going the other way, from Laos to Cambodia, you can cross the border by road or river. By river, take a boat from Don Khone or Don Khong to Voeune Kham ($2-$5). From Voeune Kham, get a Cambodian boat to Stung Treng for $10.
From Laos to Cambodia by road, there is no regularly scheduled onward transportation available on the Cambodian side of the border. There are sometimes private taxis and motos waiting at the border but there are times when no transportation is available, requiring a long wait for transport to show up. Upon request, Terres Rouges Lodge can easily arrange a pick up from the border to Ratanakiri.

From Vietnam to Banlung
If you are in Hoi An, Danang or Hué, it is very easy to cross into Cambodia, it's even one of the best ways to enter this country as it is a very quiet border crossing, there is no waiting nor hassle or extorsion as in Poïpet at the Thai border ! It allows a gentle and progressive discovery of the country, you start with the highlands, go down the Mekong river and proceed to Angkor or Phnom Penh, as you wish, without having to go up and forth like you would when arriving directly in Phnom Penh.
You must first reach Pleïku (Gia Laï province) by road, or plane from Danang (40$ per pers), then the border. There, you don't need a Cambodian visa beforehand as it can be delivered on the spot (Don't forget to bring a photo!). However, coming from Cambodia you will need a valid Vietnamese visa delivered in Phnom Penh or any consulate. It takes about 1 hour to cover the new 70km road linking Banlung to the O'Yadao - Le Than border crossing. There are no buses nor taxis yet, but Terres Rouges can organize a pick up.
